This Vinyasa class will take you through various Asanas focusing on opening and lengthening the sides of your body with intention, and twisting along the central axis of the spine to release tension and pressure in the lower back. With the space created through these postures, the digestive organs of the belly will be massaged and opened leading to a feeling of freedom in the center of the body.

kirtan ecstatic chanting
Saturday, April 28, 6:00–8:00 pm. Sign Up.
Kirtan is aspect of the centuries old practice of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion. In Kirtan, practitioners chant mantras as a means of invoking the qualities of various deities to empower their lives. There is no experience necessary, and best of all, it is an open and safe environment to sing and be free in a light and fun way. The chants will be mantras to Hindu deities, but the beauty of Kirtan is that the words can be either prayer and connection to the Gods and Goddesses or just words that you sing and make you feel good. The opening comes from your devotion and intention behind them. David will lead the chanting in call and response style and playing guitar.
the natural link: bringing the elements into your Asana practice

With Yoga, as in daily life, we are given countless opportunities to engage with our natural environment. In bringing these thoughts to a conscious level, we take the first steps towards harmonizing our resonance with the universal forces and the world we live in physically, mentally, and spiritually. This workshop will begin with a guided meditation through our connection to the elements followed by pranayama and Vinyasa - waves - of each element followed by Yoga Nidra deep relaxation. Upon rising we chant to awaken our vibrations and be in tune with the world in which we live.

david lurey biography
David was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga in 1996 as a way to tone his body and relieve work related stress. Using those as a foundation for Asana practice, the other limbs of Ashtanga Yoga began to unfold leading him to the path of teaching transformational Yoga. Using various spiritual teachings as guidelines for classes, David takes students through opening and often challenging Asanas while encouraging the magical power of breath and mental stillness to cultivate the true loving nature of the heart. David's classes invoke the natural elements in Yoga practice to balance active lifestyles with self-reflection and meditation. His certifications from GreenPath Yoga Studio, David Swenson, and It's Yoga provide a well rounded background in postures, alignment, adjustments, philosophy and history making each class a unique experience. With use of rhythmic breath, music, and flowing sequencing, his classes create the opportunity for physical presence, inner peace and spiritual awareness while building strength and increasing flexibility.
In addition to teaching regular classes in San Francisco, David has toured through Brazil and Europe sharing the teachings of Yoga and inspiring health and vitality along the way.
